Every year when December comes right after November I’m always wishing there was a week between them to catch up and rest and prepare for December.
Alas, the craziness of the December schedule always overwhelms me. So in an attempt to make sure it doesn’t surprise you, here are the upcoming band performance dates. Nov 23 ILMEA District Band Festival bus leaves at 7:30 am, kids need to bring a stand, their music, and appropriate concert attire (black and white would be best) The performance is at 7pm, all meals are provided, admission is $5 at the door. (Ryer, Riley, AJ, Alaina only) Nov 29 State football game (if they win this Saturday, and we hope they do) We will have a rehearsal on the 29th at 1:30pm to review our halftime show that we haven’t marched for almost 2 months and then we’ll pack up and board the bus at 2:30. No charter busses this year, but thankfully it’s only a 45 minute drive instead of a 3 hour drive. (that gives us more time to shop too!) The game starts at 4. The band will do everything that we do for regular games except we will continue to sit in the bleachers and play in the 2nd half of the game as well. We will march on the field for halftime in uniform, and they’ll wear whatever they need to stay warm and dry while we’re in the bleachers. If there are previous commitments that weekend and you won’t be able to make it to the game, please let me know. Also, if you want to drive your son or daughter to or from the game we can discuss those plans as well, please email me. Dec 3 Girls Basketball pep band. 6:15pm. We will have the rest of our pep performances in Jan/Feb and those dates will be forthcoming, but band members are required to attend 4 of the 6 scheduled games. I know there will be schedule conflicts but most students are able to make it to 4 of those games. Dec 12 Concert 7:30 pm Middle school Theater. Concert band, jazz band and symphonic bands will perform. All students should wear black dress pants, shoes and socks, and either a black or white dress shirt. Gentleman may wear ties or bow ties, as long as they’re black or white. We will be taking our yearbook photo during the concert instead of before the concert, so the call time will be later than it has been in the past. (Probably 7:10 unless something needs to be rehearsed before the concert begins.) During the week of Dec 16 we will take a field trip to play at some local nursing home, senior residences, and this is a volunteer only performance. Students are signing up in the band room, learning the music on their own and auditioning to be able to go on this trip. I’m happy with the number of students interested, but we can’t take everyone because the performance venue is very small. I have not set the dates for this yet, but students will only miss 1st and 2nd hour of 1 day that week. I will take different groups of kids on two different days. On Dec 20 the concert band will also be playing for the mary morgan pbis assembly, during class, so I know the field trip will not be that day. I’m really proud of the band for their performances and their attitudes during the 3 home playoff games. We’ve been playing inside preparing for our concert and not working on marching band all, switching between marching and concert is a big change and having to do them both for a month is hard for a lot of reasons, but they’ve done a good job adapting and playing whatever instrument they are supposed to play on whatever type of music I tell them to play. They’ve done a great job. Special thanks to Kari Ebens for bringing the band pizza on Saturday, Wendy Kretsinger, Brad Christian, Julie Christian, Raina Dyck and Aunt Cheri for taking care of the hot chocolate for us all season. =) All of that was very much appreciated. |
