If you would like to hear someone talk about how great your kid is, I’d be glad to have a conference with you. However, if you do not receive anything from me requesting a conference, I don’t have any huge concerns and your son or daughter is doing fine in band.
Every student is expected to practice their instrument the amount that they need to in order to play the music in class. For some kids, that’s once a week for 30 minutes, for others that’s more often. The minimum for everyone is once a week. This will start to show up in the grade book if they are coming to class not able to play the music assigned for that day. They’ll receive a syllabus of what to practice next week. We could have a home playoff game next weekend, on Oct 30 or 31. If we have one that weekend, the band students are encouraged to dress in costume. Other possible playoff games will be Nov 7, 14, 21 and 26. All band students are needed at home playoff games. Jazz Band starts November 2, and rehearses every Monday from 3-4 pm. We’re starting a winter drumline, there is a sign-up sheet in the band room. It’s open to all band members. Their wind instrument is still a priority, and this does not mean they are switching to percussion. I’m hoping to put together some fun things that drumline can play and perform at sporting events. Students will receive info about this next week. One more week for the candle sale. Order and money is due next Friday, October 30. Congratulations to the following students who were selected to participate in the ILMEA District 8 band, after a successful audition last Saturday.
Anna Saltzgiver - bassoon Cori Roth - baritone Adam Lynde - trumpet Jonah Pearson - tuba Eric Hoshaw - percussion This is an excellent accomplishment for these 5 kids, and I'm very proud of them. The district festival is November 21, more details coming later for the participants. Thursday 7-9pm Full Band Rehearsal 9th, 10th, 11th graders should bring their cookies for the 5th quarter performance to Thursday night's rehearsal. Friday 6:15 pm game, show up with uniform on, and lots of layers underneath While we are in the bleachers during the game, no one will be allowed to leave for coats or concessions. You need to eat before you show up in the band room. And, you may wear your winter coat over your uniform jacket while we snake and while we are in the bleachers, but not while we are performing on the field or on the track. Band will be free to watch the game after halftime, and then you need to return to our bleachers in the endzone when there are 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter to warm up and prepare for the postgame 5th quarter performance. Dance team members will be wearing uniform for 5th quarter, so make sure you know where your uniform is and plan accordingly. This is the official end of the regularly scheduled marching season, which means next week we'll be playing concert music in band class, if you play a different instrument for the concert season, be ready to play it next week. We started a candle fundraiser today, order forms and money are due on October 30, products will be delivered in November. Possible home playoff games are October 30or31, November 7, 14, 21 and football state is November 27. If we have a home game any of these dates, the band will be performing the same way we do for every other home game. Please keep those dates tentatively clear. We know if we have games on Monday of each week as long as the football team keeps winning. If we have one on October 30 or 31, the band will be wearing Halloween costumes, so start planning now. If the football team makes it to the state football game, we will be traveling to that game and performing. |
