- For the next 2 weeks, in class we'll be learning the drill for the last show, and reviewing the other 2 halftime shows that we performed this year, in preparation for our 5th quarter performance, on October 24th. The routine for the game will be the same as normal, except after halftime we'll go in to the gym for a full band picture for the yearbook on the bleachers, and then close to the end of the game we'll warm-up and tune. After the game is over, we will perform all 3 of our halftime shows again, starting with Green Day, then Bruno Peppers, and then ending by performing the senior show again. Afterward we will have hot chocolate, provided by the Music Boosters, and cookies provided by you! 9th, 10th and 11th graders are asked to bring 2 dozen homemade cookies, they should be brought with you to the combined rehearsal on Thursday, October 23rd. We will be rehearsing outside every day in class, and of course at the Thursday rehearsal, students need to be prepared for the colder weather.
- Congratulations to Nic Christian, Anna Saltzgiver, Cori Roth, and Adam Lynde who were selected to be in the IlMEA District Band. The competition to make this band is very stiff, and students are competing against other students from schools as far east as Genoa Kingston, north to the Wisconsin border, west to the Iowa border, and south past Sterling. It is a very large area, with a large number of schools, and many of those schools are much larger than Byron. It is a huge accomplishment to be selected for this band, but something that I'd like to encourage more students to try out for. Juniors and Seniors are then eligible to be selected for the State band, which as it says, is comprised of all of the best band kids in our state. It's quite an honor to be selected for All-State, as you can imagine. I believe that in our IlMEA district, Byron has one of the strongest 6-12 band programs, and I would really like to see more students trying out for the District band. The music is very challenging, and is something that students really need to work on for up to 6 months, and taking private lessons is suggested, but not required. I know there are a lot of Byron band students who have the potential to be selected for this ensemble, and even state when you're eligible, and it's something you should seriously consider. If you need names for private lesson teachers, see me. And, I have a scale sheet that you should be working on now so that when the rest of the audition music comes out, you don't have to worry about the scales.
- Florida deposit due October 31.
- If there is any parent interested in helping me with a copying project, I could use some assistance in the next few weeks. Please email me if you are available during the school days.
